Job Title: Recovery Project Coordinator

Employer: Kátł’odeeche First Nation (KFN)

Reports to: KFN Recovery Team or Designated Manager

Purpose of the Position

The Recovery Project Coordinator is a trusted point of contact for KFN members navigating the community’s recovery from the 2022 flood and 2023 wildfire. This position helps ensure that recovery efforts are grounded in trust, cultural understanding, and community priorities.

The RPC provides day-to-day support to residents affected by the disaster, offering guidance on accessing assistance, completing paperwork, and connecting with support services. As a familiar and empathetic face within the community, the RPC helps reduce confusion, build confidence, and prevent further trauma during what can be a long and complex recovery journey.

Key Responsibilities

Community Support & Communication

  • Provide accurate, up-to-date information about recovery programs and resources to KFN members in person, by phone, and at community events.
  • Assist residents in completing recovery-related forms and applications, including requests for reimbursements or repairs.
  • Actively listen to community members’ concerns, document feedback, and follow up with the recovery team as needed.
  • Attend community meetings and working group sessions to share updates and gather input from residents.
  • Help residents understand the roles of different agencies and service providers involved in the recovery process.

Cultural and Trauma-Informed Engagement

  • Approach all interactions with empathy, patience, and cultural sensitivity, recognizing the trauma caused by recent disasters.
  • Support residents in emotionally difficult situations by providing reassurance, guidance, and a respectful presence.
  • Help reduce stress or confusion around bureaucratic processes by explaining things clearly and compassionately.

Coordination & Liaison

  • Work with KFN staff, contractors, and external project teams to coordinate recovery-related site visits, inspections, or information sessions.
  • Communicate community needs and concerns to the project management team, ensuring the recovery plan remains responsive and respectful.
  • Support communication materials (flyers, notices, posters) by helping to make them clear, relevant, and culturally appropriate.

Recordkeeping & Administration

  • Keep simple records of community interactions, questions, and follow-up items.
  • Help maintain contact lists and tracking tools to ensure community members receive timely updates and support.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Strong understanding of Kátł’odeeche First Nation community, language, and culture.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to provide respectful, trauma-informed support to community members.
  • Basic computer and administrative skills (email, typing, document handling).
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

Assets:

  • Experience in a support, outreach, or administrative role.
  • Familiarity with disaster recovery, insurance processes, or community support services.
  • Dene Yatıé language skills.

Additional Information

  • Preference will be given to KFN members or individuals with strong ties to the KFN community.
  • Training and mentorship will be provided.
  • Some travel within the community and surrounding area may be required.
This position may require dealing with residents who are experiencing stress, loss, or uncertainty — patience and empathy are key.
